There
are twelve principal languages used in India. Except for a couple
of them, the others use scripts which are dissimilar to one another,
making communication between regional language groups difficult.
To solve the problem, we have devised a scheme to use Roman alphabet
as a common script for all the Indian languages. The scheme is
contained in a package entitled “Indian
languages-Roman lipi”. The advantages of
the scheme are as under:
1.
Millions of Indians live in urban settlements, their children
attending schools which teach English as part of the curriculum.
They are familiar with the Roman alphabet whereas they know next
to nothing about Indian languages other than their mother tongues.
For these millions, learning any Indian language through Roman
alphabet will be easy.
2.
A vast population of Indian origin is resident outside India.
The second generation of the residents and beyond do not know
anything at all about the language of their origin. They are,
however, familiar with the Roman alphabet. When they want to learn
an Indian language, a software utility comes in handy.
3.
A computer-based multi-language lexicon will be useful to students,
businessmen and media persons. This is an enormous task, which
we can only sample. Only vast organizations can implement it. |
